In 1845 Bernardino Branca created what was to become the world-famous Fernet-Branca amaro and founded the company Fratelli Branca. A newspaper advertisement from 1865 claimed this “renowned liqueur” to be “febrifuge, vermifuge, tonic, invigorating, warming and anti-choleric”. The drink’s numerous medicinal claims came in handy during the American prohibition; as a medicine, Fernet-Branca was still legal. Ingredients:
45 ml of Fernet Branca
20 ml sugar syrup
20 ml lime juice
Thomas Henry ginger beer
Directions:
Collect all the ingredients in the shaker, fill with ice, shake with energy, pour contents into the mug on fresh ice and fill with Thomas Henry ginger beer. Garnish with a lemon zest.
